• The process is simple:

    1. Submit a case: Veterinarians or veterinary staff upload relevant consult details, including images, ocular diagnostic test results (e.g., Schirmer Tear Test, fluorescein stain, and tonometry), and medical history.

    2. Ophthalmologist review: A veterinary ophthalmologist evaluates the consult and provides a detailed assessment, including a problem list, treatment plan, and follow-up recommendations.

    3. Receive the consultation report: A PDF report is delivered within 24 hours (business days only) for your medical records.

  • Licensed veterinarians can consult with veterinary ophthalmologists through this platform. Pet owners cannot access the platform directly, but veterinarians with an established veterinarian-client-patient relationship (VCPR) may submit consults on their behalf.

  • No. Eye Vet Consults’ veterinary ophthalmologists do not communicate directly with pet owners. The requesting veterinarian, who maintains the primary care relationship, is responsible for discussing findings with the pet owner.

  • Veterinarians can submit consults for any eye condition in any species. Common consultation requests include:

    • Ocular trauma or injury
    • Eyelid disorders
    • Keratoconjunctivitis sicca (KCS), or “dry eye”
    • Corneal ulcers
    • Uveitis
    • Cataracts
    • Glaucoma
    • Retinal diseases

  • Eye Vet Consults typically provides same-day responses. At the latest, reports are finalized by the end of the next business day. The requesting veterinarian should determine if this timeframe is appropriate for emergent consults. For certain emergencies (e.g., acute injury or sudden vision loss), an in-person referral may be more suitable.

  • • A smartphone with a functional camera
    • Access to the platform via a web browser
    • Optional, but recommended: An Easy-Macro lens for enhanced magnification. Instructions for use are available within the app.

  • Include all available patient images with your submission, even if they seem low quality. These may still provide useful diagnostic information. If needed, the ophthalmologist may request additional images. We recommend reviewing our in-app guide on smartphone imaging for optimal results.

  • For questions about a specific consult, please email info@eyevetconsults.com and include the “EVC Report No.” listed at the top of your PDF report. If necessary, an addendum to the report will be provided.

  • If referral to a veterinary ophthalmologist is suggested, we provide a list of nearby ophthalmologists via this ACVO resource: ACVO Ophthalmologist Search. Options for consult management within your practice will also be provided, as we recognize referral may not always be feasible.

  • Please refer to our current consultation fees here.

  • Refunds are generally unavailable once an ophthalmologist has reviewed your consult. However, if a technical issue or other concern arises, please contact info@eyevetconsults.com to discuss potential options.
